Onion and Pepper

6 x 8 inches, oil on canvas on panel. This painting is available for sale for $150 + $10 shipping. EMail me at lisagloria@gmail.com if you would like it.

Last night the art-obsessed Lulu (age 6) and I made one of those little lined boxes for still life set-ups. I used to have one lined with white paper, and this one is lined with black paper. If you've ever wondered how to paint a still life with moody lighting, this is the way.

I had this picture in my mind of a warmis color next to a dimly lit reflective object. I tried the sugar bowl and the little vase, to no avail. Then I saw this commercial pepper shaker on the counter, and went with it. I like it! Will have to start painting that more. The simple cylindrical shape is so much fun to paint. I really enjoy painting metal and glass. Thought the onion was going to asphixiate me though.

I took a video for an oil painting demonstration - will update this post when it's good to go.

Self portrait from life

9 x 12, oil on panel.

This was painted from life, and yes I took video, but I haven't processed it yet. The room was sort of dark so I'm not sure how great the video will look. Grainy is my guess.

It looks like me on a good day. LOL but I flatter people all the time. Why not me too?

Corporate Portraits - In progress

These three studies are for a set of corporate portraits I'm working. They'll hang together on a boardroom wall, and so the size and manner need to work together as a large portrait. This is the initial sketch - I have some ideas of things I would like to change but first I have to take them in for board approval on Tuesday.

Heather #8

This looks way better in real life. The blue is just crazy teal and looks pretty smashing I think. But I got impatient with taking the picture. One day I will have a studio with a picture taking wall and perfect lighting. Ahhhhh

Available off the easel and varnished with a nice UV protective varnish. $200 + $10 shipping in the US. Email me at lisagloria@gmail.com if you would like it.

11 x 14, oil on canvas, alla prima. Here it is being made:

WIP Carnations #3 Day 3

Vase and background still quite neutral, though the vase will be both warmer and have a toile design glazed on later. Feeling pretty good about this one. Maybe 2 days to go.

WIP - Carnations #3 day 2

Still keeping it nice and loose, the local colors were scrubbed in today, with 2-3 values per object.

I love this phase of the painting and the last couple of years I've been trying to retain more and more of the directness and freshness of this layer, while still having picky realism in there too.
The next layer will start to get more realistic.

WIP - Carnations #3

Here we are after day 1 of a new carnations painting. It's about 12 x 12 on masonite panel. Yes, I did swear after the last carnations painting that I would never attempt these complicated little beasties again. I did. But they tempt me.
